Bringing Nature Back to the Cities
Across India, our cities are turning into dust bowls. Native trees have vanished from sidewalks, bird calls grow fewer, and pollinators are struggling to survive. The concrete keeps spreading - but biodiversity has all but disappeared.
At Farmers for Forests, we believe that cities can become sanctuaries. Our Urban Biodiversity Hubs are a new initiative to reimagine urban spaces as living, breathing ecosystems - designed for birds, bees, soil, water, and the humans who live around them.
Ground-Level Urban Transformation
Transforming degraded metropolitan plots into flourishing biodiverse sanctuaries through community-powered stewardship.
Sanctuaries for Native Wildlife
When native trees, multi-tier vegetation, and living soils take root, indigenous pollinators and birds return to city centers within months.
More Than Green Patches
These hubs are more than green patches. They are immersive and educational landscapes that showcase native flora and pollinator-friendly design, soil regeneration and water harvesting techniques, composting and food forests, and community spaces and ecological storytelling
Native Flora & Pollinator-Friendly Design
Planting multi-tiered native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers specifically chosen to provide year-round nectar and nesting ground for urban bees, butterflies, and birds.
Soil Regeneration & Water Harvesting
Implementing bioswales, retention basins, and deep mulch layering to recharge depleted urban water tables and bring life back to compacted, lifeless urban ground.
Composting & Food Forests
Creating closed-loop community composting units and layered edible food forests that demonstrate decentralized waste recycling and nourishing local produce.
Community Spaces & Ecological Storytelling
Welcoming students, neighborhood associations, and curious citizens for hands-on planting, nature walks, workshops, and immersive ecological storytelling.
Starting in Pune, Bangalore & Chennai
We’re starting in Pune, Bangalore, and Chennai, with many more cities to follow over the next few years.
Pune
Our active flagship biodiversity hub featuring native planting, soil restoration, community workshops, and participatory volunteer forestry.
Bangalore
Restoring native urban tree cover, pollinator green corridors, and rainwater infiltration basins across the rapidly urbanizing technology capital.
Chennai
Developing climate-resilient coastal urban ecosystems, wetland sponge zones, and native biodiversity pockets to buffer urban heat and flooding.
With many more cities to follow over the next few years as we scale urban living sanctuaries nationwide.
This is just the beginning. We’ll be sharing more soon - stay tuned!
Follow our journey as we transform concrete metropolises into vibrant ecological sanctuaries for birds, bees, soil, water, and communities.
